Something Like Scales
Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once (Acts 9:18 ).
Scales | Christ’s Face Revealed
A mist is falling swift about his eyes.
He groans as angels ready him at the last,
Easing him away from us so grieved.
What glimpses he? Who does he recognize?
Scales | Justice or Mercy
At the cusp of death I do not wonder,
Weighed and measured, if I am to be found
Wanting. I only wonder at the choice
Of mercy once again, again, again.
Scales | Music of the Spheres
She’s humming that hymn again
Like she’s done for sixty years.
She’s lost walking and eating and talking,
But not that tune of mercy.
Scaled | Subtle, Subtle, Subtle
How slow we let His mercy in.
Inch by painful inch, the saint reveals
Homeland reclaimed in calloused hearts
Made flesh and something more.
Scaling | Cloudscapes Mounting
From realm to unseen realm watch him ascend,
The sinner-saint of old brought home at last,
Cloud stepping in his giddy robes of white,
Knowing at the last all shall, all shall be well.
Scales | Mine Eyes Have Seen
Light warms the leaves so lovingly as he
Puts on a world so wholly new and filled
With holiness, a holy, smiling face, his face
Bewilderingly at hand; his eyes so warm.
